Day three of E3 2018 was kicked off by Square Enix. During its presentation, a 30-second tease for the Nintendo Switch exclusive Octopath Traveler was shown. At the end of it, a release date of July 13 was revealed. Though not much about the story itself was discussed, the trailer highlights the games eight different characters.
Among them are a warrior, merchant, and dancer just to name a few, and if you’re wondering if all eight characters will be playable, they are and each one has a different story. When it comes to special abilities, each character’s different per Nintendo’s website. The Apothecary can heal allies or make explosives by mixing items. While the dancer known as Primrose has a high level of charm leads her followers into battle.
Deciding where you go and who you go with will also have an effect on where your adventure ends. In September of 2017, Square Enix released a demo for Octopath Traveler, and it was met with a lot of criticism. Close to 50,000 people played the demo and afterward cited a lack of speed in both battling and gameplay as a major issue. Those who played the demo also felt like it was too distant from other games Square Enix created.
As shown in the trailer below, player movement is faster. Also, the aesthetic of the game itself was adjusted to make it look like other JRPG titles made by Square Enix.
