Indie developer Zordix has just released Aqua Moto Racing Utopia on the Nintendo Switch (as well as Snow Moto Racing Freedom). While the Switch release is a bit late to the party (it launched last November on PS4 & PC), there’s a version of the game that’s spent most of its time since announcement MIA—the Wii U edition.
The game was revealed to be coming to Wii U all the way back in 2014. It was delayed, with its last planned release date back in the summer of 2016, but that obviously didn’t happen either. There’s mostly been radio silence on the Wii U version of the game since then minus a tweet from the dev back in May of this year showing the game running on the Wii U Gamepad.
With Aqua Moto Racing Utopia now released on Switch, it seemed likely the Wii U version was silently canceled. It appears that isn’t the case. I reached out to the dev on the release trailer for the Switch version asking what’s the current status of the Wii U edition. Zordix confirmed that it’s still in development:
Well, there you have it! If you’re a Wii U owner that hasn’t picked up a Switch yet (or don’t have a PS4 or PC with Steam), then you can still look forward to playing the game. It would be nice if the developer actually gave a solid release date, though.
