The Nintendo 3DS has been on the market for a little over six years at this point. Despite its age, Nintendo is still supporting the handheld family with regular game releases. It even just got a new model added to the roster in the form of the New 2DS XL. Speaking of hardware, how much has the 3DS sold worldwide since launch?
Nintendo has just released a new financial quarterly report (Q1 2018), which has revealed a lot of info on the current performance of both 3DS and Switch. Turns out that the 3DS family has sold over 67 million units since its launch back in 2011. Over 950,000 units were sold within this quarter, which is pretty impressive considering that this is after the Switch came to market.
Indeed, Nintendo’s little handheld is still holding its own despite having to share the spotlight with its big brother. Also considering the massive amount of competition that it has with mobile devices, it’s really amazing that its achieved such a big number. Compare that to its former competitor the PS Vita (15+ million since 2011) and its easy to see just how well the 3DS has done.
