After the announcement that the standard-sized (not the XL) New 3DS would be ending production in Japan, Nintendo has also stated that the (standard-sized) unit is also being discontinued in Europe. This report comes from GameSpot, which got the official word from Nintendo of Europe.
With the release of the New 2DS XL, it looks like Nintendo is trying to make some shelf space. Thew New 3DS XL has always been the more popular variant (despite being more expensive), so it’s not a huge mystery as to why the standard-sized model is being discontinued. Both variants launched alongside each other back in 2014 and feature enhanced technical capabilities over the original 2011 models.
