Yokai Watch, the Pokemon-like ghost hunting RPG from Level 5, has performed far above expectations in Japan. In fact, according to Famitsu, the game has gone on to sell 1.28 million units in just four days on sale. These numbers indicate that in its first four days on sale, Yokai Watch 2 has already gone on to outsell the original game and is now the top-selling game of 2014 in Japan.

To give some comparison to this game launch, Pokemon X/Y sold roughly 2.6 million units in its first 2 days on sale and Monster Hunter 4 sold 1.7 million units, meaning that the launch of Yokai Watch has gone on to become one of the 3DS’ most successful launches, surpassing even Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s 800k sold in its debut week.

Level 5 has teased a western release of Yokai Watch on several occasions already, so these successful sales indicate that it may just be a matter of time before the game is finally released in the west.
