Fresh new details have emerged about Monolith Soft’s newly titled epic action-RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles X.

As you have no doubt seen from the beautiful trailer below, the game starts off with a gigantic space battle between two warring alien races. The thing is, this war has gotten so out of control it’s starting to have repercussions for the human race who have had to abandon the Earth and set off in search of a new home. During one of the battles in space one of the human’s Arc Ships falls under fire and crash lands on an unexplored planet. You play as one of the survivors of this crashed vessel, who is awoken from a stasis pod by a character known as Elma. Together you search the surrounding area for other survivors and the squad of military who were also in stasis aboard the ship. It is at this stage that the game allows full customization of the main protagonist, including, hair, eye, skin color, shape and size. Clothing, height, weight and build are also some of the many features than can be altered via the Wii U Gamepad.

Xenoblade Chronicles X also features mechs which you climb into and pilot, and these will be unlocked once you arrive at Neo Los Angeles, the large city which is part of an Arc Ship, seen in the trailer. The combat system, like it’s predecessor is real time, allowing the player to build “Technical Points” or TP. These can be built up faster be using melee attacks, and are used to power up the series of attacks known as Arts which appear at the bottom of the screen. Players can choose to use ranged attacks for fierce monsters and enemies but will obviously build TP at a much slower rate. Players also control other team mates and can issue commands via the battle menu such as focus attacks. All characters feature “Inner Stats” and “Class Stats”, with the former being unique and the latter tied to your class, which can be changed at any time in game. Different Arts are available to different classes so you’ll have to master a wide range of abilities if you want to survive varied battles.

Monolith Soft hope to engross the player in a living breathing world, full of beauty featuring a full day/night cycle, real-time weather changes all of which will affect the behavior of enemies. For example predators may come out at night, while other beasts may choose to sleep.

Expect to see Xenoblade Chronicles X launch in the first half of 2015, exclusively on the Wii U.
