The latest sales from Japan have been released by Media Create, and though the Switch took the top spot out of all consoles, selling 50,000 units for the week, the console is still lagging behind launch figures for its predecessor, the Wii U. In its third week on the market, the Wii U sold roughly 123,000 units, more than double the Switch’s sales in the same time period. Two possible explanations for these sales are supply shortages for the Switch, and the fact that the Wii U launched during the holiday season.
