In a bid to continue the expansion of their licensing opportunities, Nintendo and K\’NEX are continuing their partnership with a new series of Super Mario 3D World branded K\’NEX sets.

There have been Mario-branded play-sets across many different toy lines before, but just like the Mario Kart Wii branded K\’NEX, this new line focuses on the most recent EAD Tokyo developed 3D Mario game. The first of the play-sets to be released is the Cat Mario Building Set for $34.99 which will come packed with a Cat Mario figurine, a Mouse, Coins, a clear Warp Pipe and a Flag. Another new set which has been announced is based on Wii U launch game, New Super Mario Bros U called Layer Cake Desert. This set will retail for $64.99, and includes a Fire Mario figurine, a Pokey, a Stone Eye, Sand Geysers, a Waddlewing, a Fire Flower, a Warp Pipe, and a Flag.

Super Mario 3D World made headlines upon it\’s release last year as it featured what many considered to be the most \”gimmicky\” Mario power-up yet, however in execution the Cat power-up become a very welcome addition. Collecting a golden bell allowed Mario and friends to transform into cats giving them the ability to climb walls, and perform an air attack. The game was released as a Wii U exclusive and managed to sell just over two million units worldwide.
