RPG’s tend to sell very well on the 3DS, and one that has been out for a while in Japan is Dragon Quest VII for the 3DS. A remake of Dragon Warrior VII (the series title in Japan) for the 3DS, Dragon Quest VII was a huge seller in Japan, selling over 800,000 copies in it’s first week on the market back in early 2013. The game has never been localized for the US audience though, which comes as a peculiar omission. In a recent interview with Noriyoshi Fujimoto, he addressed this issue:

“Going back to people who want DQ VII  to come out… we’ve gotten a lot of requests, we really want to do it, but right now, we need to hammer out what kind of resources we’d need to do it. We say this a lot, but, we can’t seem to get to the point where it’s justifiable.”

Fujimoto and Square Enix want to see a demand for the game, which has been going on for a long while. With the success of Bravely Default, a brand new RPG IP for the US, one would think that Square Enix would see this as a profitable endeavor.
