At a recent Nintendo of Canada media event, a bit of a miscommunication happened. As is usual in these situations, fantasies ran wild and logic was thrown to the wind. Luckily, Nintendo was able to clarify the mistake quick enough to stop things from going too out of hand.
At the event, a team called Console Creatures played a bit of Super Smash Bros for Wii U while recording in a video with Matt Ryan, a spokesperson for Nintendo of Canada. In conversation, Matt threw in an innocent slip of the tongue, ‘Rayman and a whole bunch of others,” which instantly had the internet swirling with rumors of Rayman as a playable character in Super Smash Bros.
Since it seemed more like an honest mistake rather than a true reveal, we reached out to Nintendo of Canada for clarification. Luckily, they had a statement to offer us within the day.
Nintendo of Canada’s statement:
“In the recent interview in Canada about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Rayman was mentioned, and this was referring to the previously announced Rayman trophy in the game.”
Since Rayman had been previously announced as an in-game trophy, it made it all the more unusual to have Rayman as a playable character, as well.
