In a recent French interview, the ex-Marketing Director of Nintendo of France Mathieu Minel revealed why he thought the Wii U launch was not as successful as some people hoped it would be. In short, Minel believes that the Wii U was missing that one revolutionary game that other Nintendo consoles have launched with in the past.

“I think Nintendo Japan did not have that one game,”began Minel. “It did not have this fun and easily accessible game that could’ve demonstrated the Gamepad’s essence like they had with the Wiimote and Wii Sports.

Unlike 90% of our competitor’s console or game launches, Nintendo always tries to find a fun, immediate and strong concept. But it simply wasn’t ready at Wii U’s launch.”

Do you agree with this stance on why the Wii U’s launch may not have been successful as many had hoped? If the Wii U did have that one killer title would it have performed much better? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
