Update: As promised, the Luigi Line only lasted for one day, but it seems as if Nintendo did more than simply decorate an entire train. Luigi himself appeared on the train as well as in train stations and even played a few rounds on New Super Luigi U with the pedestrians. Check out the photos from yesterday!

Original: Nintendo announced recently that they’d be partnering up with the Chicago Transit Authority and its “L” train as part of a special event to celebrate the Year of Luigi and in a bold effort to market the upcoming retail launch of New Super Luigi U.

Part of Chicago’s “L” train, the Brown Line, was to be rebranded as the “Luigi Line,” and a special train covered inside and out with images of Luigi will run on that line from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time today. In addition, Luigi himself will appear on the train. And the upper platform of the lobby at the Clark/Lake station, located at 124 W. Lake St., will host kiosks where fans can play New Super Luigi U.

You can purchase New Super Luigi U on the Wii U eShop for $19.99 as downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U. A retail disc-based version will be released Aug. 25 for $29.99. You can read our review of the game here.
