In a recent interview with Dan Adelman from Nintendo of America, the executive was asked whether he was aware of the cross buy feature on other platforms and whether Nintendo was considering this approach for the Wii U and 3DS.
Adelman responded by pointing out that cross buy has been a feature that many people have talked about recently. Due to this, Nintendo is definitely considering the approach, but wants more demand from developers before implementing or announcing the new feature.
Adelman’s full statement follows:
We don’t have anything new to announce on that, but I believe that the idea’s been talked about. So it’s something we’re definitely up to considering if there’s enough demand from developers, but nothing to announce for right now.
This is an interesting development, as cross buy would be a very exciting feature for Nintendo to take on. So far, there are very few titles released on both Wii U and 3DS, but one of the thriving environments for dual releases is on the Nintendo Virtual Console, where many games are released on both platforms. This would definitely provide incentive for players to pick up games for the Virtual Console, as they’ll be able to play the games across platforms.
