Throughout the past several weeks, several websites have posted rumors from “credible sources” stating that Nintendo will be unveiling new hardware at this year’s E3; more specifically, a new Wii U model. Nintendo has confirmed that these rumors are in fact false, and are rather “groundless”, with no evidence as a base.

This situation seems eerily similar to that of the 3DS XL, though. The handheld was rumored for several weeks before E3, only to be denied repeatedly by Nintendo. Finally, within a matter of a few weeks, Nintendo unveiled the 3DS XL. So, although Nintendo is denying a Wii U revamp, it isn’t by any means outside the realm of possibility.

Nintendo has, though, announced plans to develop hardware for developing countries. This hardware announcement could very well come during E3, and could be the source of all these rumors.
