Coming back to the races are Lakitu, Shy Guy, Toadette, and Metal Mario. Also returning are two fun items, Boomerang Flower, perfect for taking out racers tailing you, and Piranha Plant, which has pretty good reach over things in front of you. Finally, front and center in the trailer are the returning courses from classic Mario Kart games. In particular, the glorious Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64.
You might get lost in the new revelations to pay attention, but Mario Kart 8 also showed off some new game mechanics. When you are at the antigravity sections of the race tracks, you can bump into other drivers, or certain obstacles, to initiate Spin Turbo.
