As the release date of Mario Kart 8 inches closer and closer, each day brings with it new information on the highly anticipated Wii U exclusive. Today, in addition to the massive Mario Kart Direct, Nintendo also revealed the download size of the game for those who will be buying the game on the Nintendo eShop as opposed to a normal retail store.

The download itself is 4.9 GB large. Although this is roughly the average size for a Wii U game, this does mean that those on a basic Wii U set will need to get an external hard drive to download the game, or stick to the physical version. Those who have already downloaded some things on their deluxe Wii U may also need to upgrade.

Mario Kart 8 will be releasing on May 30th exclusively for the Wii U. The game will sell for $59.99 regardless of whether it is purchased in a retail store or on the Nintendo eShop.
