This week’s issue of Jump magazine in Japan has revealed a brand new action-RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, coming from Square-Enix.

The new game is known as Final Fantasy Explorers, and in recent tradition with Nintendo-based Final Fantasy spin-offs – it’s all about crystals! To gather crystals players will need to battle different beasts around the game world. There will be four different job techniques for players to choose from including genre stalwarts, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk & Knight. The magazine has also revealed that the game will feature a four player multi-player mode, but it’s not been confirmed if this will include co-operative or simply competitive modes.

Final Fantasy Explorers is the first Final Fantasy spin-off to appear on a Nintendo format since 2012’s Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance on the Nintendo 3DS. The last console spin-off was Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003. Square Enix have been supporting Nintendo’s formats with the Dragon Quest series, including the recent Dragon Quest X on Wii & Wii U.

No word on a release date yet, but expect more information in the coming weeks and months.
