Just over a week ago, Square-Enix announced it’s intention to release the formerly Wii & Wii U exclusive Dragon Quest X onto the Nintendo 3DS. During the same announcement, it was confirmed that the game would be a cloud-streaming version of the game, meaning it would appear graphically superior to your average 3DS game, as the handheld would not be handling the processing work. Siliconera have now unearthed that the game will see a retail release in Japan, complete with standard 3DS box but will not feature a cartridge.

The physical release of Dragon Quest X will contain:

  • Download code rather than a cartridge.
  • Voucher for a 60 day subscription
  • Poster
  • Lemon Slime Board Prism
  • Five large experience point ancient documents

Dragon Quest X is due for release in Japan on September 4th, a western release has yet to be confirmed but has previously been teased for the Wii U version.
