The French hacker Smealum has developed a homebrew application for the 3DS that he is preparing to release soon. Unlike other homebrew applications, this one has several unique features to help it stand apart and make it a little less… er… illegal.

First of all, this homebrew application does not allow pirated 3DS ROMs, only homebrew applications and games. Therefore, those hoping to pirate 3DS games will not be able to as it is not only illegal, but not supported by the homebrew application. Furthermore, this version of the homebrew channel works on all up-to-date 3DS units for now, until Nintendo finds a way to squash it.

What’s the purpose of this homebrew application? The hacker claims that the channel will be able to run older emulators such as SNES ones and will eventually support region-unlocking, meaning that gamers will be able to play games from other regions on their 3DS.

Keep in mind that Nintendo Enthusiast does not condone pirating to any degree. As a result, we will only report the news and do not advise in partaking in this homebrew activity.
