Nice new digs you've made here, Menashe.

I also like this new look, maybe better than the previous one.

Hey can I get modded? Is there a staff forum already? What else am I missing?
  4. admin

    admin Administrator Staff Member Moderator

oops. You were the only one who beat me to it when I was recreating everyone's user accounts over here. So, I modded them and forgot to mod you. Now it's fixed.

The system gives the option for mods or super mods. I made the editors super mods and DarkDepths and fourthreetwo I made regular mods because DD helps out with the tech stuff and 432 helps out with the Facebook account.

This time around I think we'll leave FRT off the mod list. I haven't really seen him posting around here.

    Hello, new forums.

I watched Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol a few days ago. It was done really well, excellent production values. It reminded me a bit of Casino Royale plus a bit of Tintin, mostly, because of the exotic locales; from prison to the Kremlin to Dubai to Mumbai to Seattle. I also liked the comedy that was a new element added to the series via Simon Pegg. One thing I didn't go for was how everything that happened was so implausible. They didn't even try to hide it, in fact they embraced it.

I also started reading the first book in the famous book series, The Hunger Games. So far, it's awesome! Especially since the scholastic level of the book is probably elementary school level. Still, the themes the book explores are quite complex and frightening.

So I'll be starting my blog, [insert title], up again in a little over a week. I've got some new formats for the images that I make for my blog, and I can't entirely decide on which one I want to stick with.

    You guys like this?

    Or this?

Personally, I like the latter more, but I imagine it would be easier to use the former since I hold my blog every week. But I like the more complex imagery and I was kind of inspired by some of the old Toonami bumpers that showed the title of the show seconds before.

Again, what do you guys think?
  8. admin

    admin Administrator Staff Member Moderator

Is the difference in the format or in the actual image? In terms of the actual image I'd say the second one is more profound and appealing to someone who appreciates complex art, while the first one is more mainstream and appealing to the casual reader.

As a format, I like the first picture better. As a picture, the second one is better. For the first one, I wonder whether it would become a bit of a problem with games that have strange logos.

    --------------------

I found a picture on SomethingAwful that is very much worthy of Menashe. I will post it frequently and whenever I see fit. Now is one of those times.

Hmm...when I quote, it doesn't bring up a new post with the quoted portion. Anyone else?

Anywho, since I saw the new Mission: Impossible mentioned, I'll just use this as yet another excuse to mention my new hot French girl crush: Lea Seydoux.

I was confused too, but I just figured it out. When you want to quote and reply to a single post, just click on reply, and it will quote for you automatically. When you want to quote multiple posts, clik 'quote' on all the posts you want to quote, and then hit reply in any of them. All of your selected quotes will be embedded for you to reply at your leisure.

We shoiuld really make a general faq thread with all this kind of info.

Ugh. So I woke up the morning of 12/30/11 feeling a little sick. Had Wendy's for dinner, woke up at 1 a.m. with my stomach on fire, and have been out of commission ever since. I'm just now starting to feel human again.

How was everyone else's New Year's Eve celebrations?

OK, one nice thing about mending up? I got a chance to watch a lot of Top Gear (the actual one, not this strange American version History channel has been trying to pawn off on us here). I watched an episode where each of the three gearheads had to try to convert a car/truck into an aquatic vehicle. I nearly fell out of my couch laughing.

I saw a little green check mark on the 'Off-Topic Forums' and was immediately frozen with fear of spam. Man, these spammers are going to scar my mind if they keep at it.

My latest favorite TV show: Justified.

Oh, and I just finished the first book in the Hunger Games series and I have to say that it's actually very good. I enjoyed it despite it being written on a level for young adults. It has great themes.

And lastly, you saw Tim Tebow last night? Wow. I'm not even a football fan (it's a Canadian thing) but that was cool.

Not a fan of Football either (I much prefer Futbol [IMG] ), but I just looked it up on YouTube, it was very nice.

So I just had my second crappy day at work in a row. Writing about videogames all day would be so much better.

Since I hadn't had a decent night out since I got food poisoning, I decided to go home and indulge at the French restaurant across the street from my apartment. Best. French. Dip. Ever. Great coffee, too. And now I'm home, finishing up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black. Occasional hedonism has its place.

What's up. I'm from the IGN forums. I really hope this site takes off. I'm officially in the CT.

Ev1lTw1n, I love the icon. juegos, I like yours too. admins is a bit too serious for my likes, but its still nice.

    How bad are the spammers?

Edit: In which forum can I start a blog? I'm guessing off-topic since that's kind of what it is, am I right?

Edit2: I was just posting in the ign forums and I realized that they are sooo off topic. Every thread in the wii lobs goes crazy especially my michael pachter thread which turned into a religious debate. I really hope this website goes strong.

Hey Aki, yeah I'm pretty sure we all recognize you from over there.

The spammers here aren't so terrible, but that's probably cause we keep a strong watch. Generally spammers are banned and/or their threads deleted within a couple of hours at most since they posted spam.

That religion thread was crazy, and it sucks that it had to go so bad because of that one dude that started some crap.

I also find it odd that you think "Pink Freud" is too serious [IMG]

I think in honor of Aki we should start a new forum for introducing yourself and have thread all to yourself, sort of like a blog.

    nice, we can finally blog.

i'm so pissed. i just booted up legend of zelda, i didn't save because i thought that by hitting the home button and going to the wii menu saves the game, i lost an entire dungeons worth of data. I also lost multiple heart pieces and a sword upgrade. wtf??????

menashe, can i get access to the staff forums? i think it would benefit the site.

That's a good read. I really want to look into this whole dark matter/energy stuff, but it's extremely complicated. My brother told me he'd been reading up on how plasma interactions have been shown to largely resemble some of the workings of galaxies and other universe phenomena, but that astrophysicists at large continue to ignore that kind of research because one of requirements of Big Bang Theory is that electromagnetism be a negligible force in space, but such research on plasma could actually give us a larger understanding on how space works, including this whole dark matter business.

In other words, it's possible that some of this dark matter/energy problems can be partly solved when taking into account electromagnetism and plasma energy interactions, but that's something the scientific world doesn't want to bother with right now.

Me and my bro did want to look into it ourselves, but when we looked up textbooks on electromagnetism in space, not only were they ridiculously expensive (above $500 if I recall correctly), but they were super dense and required an intimate knowledge of advanced electromagnetism, which is pretty much Calculus far above university level.

I'm sure the stuff is fascinating for those that can read complex equations as if they were poems, though.

So today has been a Netflix catch up day. Watched True Grit (very well done, spectacular cinematography...if only I could have understood more of what Jeff Bridges was saying) and Babel (Iñárritu crafted this one amazingly well, so that you understand and empathize with each character's actions, even if you're disappointed in them).

I saw Alex mention Collapse over at the Wii lobby; I got part way through that awhile ago and just got too depressed to watch it (hopefully Michio Kaku is right and solar becomes viable in 25 years). Actually, I've studiously avoided telling of its existence to a friend of mine (I'm afraid she'll just go jump off a bridge).

So. Time for something cheerier. On to Top Gear...
  50. Deleted User

    Deleted User Guest

Yeah man Collapse is damning. Also I remember not being able to enjoy Babel as much as I should have because I was watching it with my entire Spanish Lit class, and like typical Mexican teenagers (I would know) they just couldn't treat the movie seriously because of the nudity and stuff. I do remember it was really good, and I was really looking forward to it after watching Amores Perros and 21 Grams.

I gotta check True Grit sometime, but I've also heard things about Jeff Bridges' accent from other people.

Also don't know if you saw this on the chat, but you should check out St Vincent, she's a freaking amazing musician in my opinion (her band, too):

Of course it helps that she looks a bit like Scarlett Johannson.

I'm just going to edit in even more videos of that ACL performance because it was fantastic:
