Nintendo went big at last year’s E3, and in 2018 the big N looks to capitalize on the momentum they’re riding into the Expo. this time around. Here are two things bound to happen, and a pipe dream that I can only dream for.
Nintendo 64 Classic announced
This one seems like a no-brainer. Over the past two years, Nintendo has released the NES Classic and the Super Nintendo Classic. As someone who grew up with the Nintendo 64, I would love to revisit some of the games that shaped me into the gamer I’ve become. I expect classics like Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Super Smash Bros to make the cut, while cult classics like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Mischief Makers can also be included so gamers can experience these lesser known games for the first time.
Metroid Prime Trilogy coming to Switch
One of the biggest surprises during last year’s E3 was when Nintendo announced that Metroid Prime 4. I played through the games on Gamecube and Wii respectively. A Switch remaster of the trilogy, complete with HD graphics, pro-controller support, and online multiplayer would make for the ultimate package of this fantastic trilogy. The best thing Nintendo could do for the franchise is to re-release the Metroid Prime games so that fans can prepare for the upcoming fourth installment.
Donkey Kong Racing coming to Switch
Remember when the Gamecube launched and Nintendo showed a trailer for Donkey Kong Racing? Unfortunately, that game was cancelled, and I’ve been secretly crying in a corner for more than a decade. Diddy Kong Racing was one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games, and I couldn’t wait for a sequel. Mario Kart is the flagship racing franchise for Nintendo, but it’s time for a change. Nintendo could re-introduce the previously cancelled game. With Donkey Kong taking center stage earlier this month with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, I think it’s time to give gaming’s most famous Gorilla another time to shine.
