During Nintendo’s recent financial briefing, the company released updated sales data for its two platforms the Switch and 3DS. The updated information is dated as of March 31, 2018.
As it stands, the Nintendo Switch has sold an impressive 17.79 million units worldwide. That’s not too far off from a full 18 million, and it will likely pass that number in just a few weeks. The Nintendo 3DS family is currently sitting at 72.53 million units worldwide. Seeing that the platform has been around since 2011, there’s no telling how much higher that number will go, but it’s still an impressive feat considering the popularity of mobile devices in modern society.
With the Switch having sold nearly 18 million units in just a year, there should be no doubt at this point that it’s a true success. Its next historical milestone is surpassing that of the Gamecube’s sales, which were 24 million units. Nintendo is expecting to ship 20 million Switch units by the end of the next fiscal year (March 2019). If those expectations are met, then that means the Switch user-base could be somewhere in the realm of 37+ million units by next year.
