Nintendo Labo just hit store shelves a few days ago after a surprise reveal at the beginning of the year. The constructible cardboard toy-sets for the Nintendo Switch initially caught a lot of people off-guard, but the general reaction proved to be very positive as more information was released leading up to launch. Now that it’s out in the wild, there’s been a huge wave of positivity generated from all the cool creations that people have already come up with. The Big N has plans to make sure the momentum continues.
During its recent financial briefing, Nintendo President Kimishima briefly commented on Labo and gave a basic explanation as to what the future plans are. Simply, Labo will be nurtured into one of Nintendo’s “staple products” and the company also hopes to use it to capture the interest of non-gamers. Here’s the full comment:
“In addition, Nintendo is providing a new kind of play with Nintendo Labo, which people have been calling a “very Nintendo” kind of product. We intend to nurture Nintendo Labo into one of our staple products that provide an experience that is unique to Nintendo Switch, and reach a broad global audience encompassing not just traditional video game fans, but also people who heretofore had no interest in video games.“
