The death of Nintendo’s former president, Satoru Iwata, came as a surprise to many. Reports indicated that his health had been declining prior to his untimely death. Tatsumi Kimishima then replaced Iwata months later.
Multiple sources have reported that 68-year old Kimishima will step down as president of Nintendo. His replacement will be 46-year old Shuntaro Furukawa, a former Nintendo executive and Outside Director for the Pokémon Company.
It looks as though Kimishima being replaced wasn’t due to performance. Reports from Nikkei indicate that the replacement was planned once sales were on the rebound. It was also noted that, due to his age, Furukawa can better relate to Nintendo’s average consumer.
Nintendo’s official listing of its executive officers still has Kimishima as the current standing president.
