During the latest Nintendo Direct, a lot of Mario Tennis Aces detailed were revealed, including the release date. On June 22, Switch owners will get the chance to hit the courts with some of the most popular characters in the Mario universe.
There will be a roster of 15 characters including Mario, Waluigi, Yoshi, Boo, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and Bowser.
There are a few new gameplay mechanics in this installment. Besides the normal shots, Mario Tennis Aces introduces three new shots, an energy meter, and the ability to break your opponent’s racket mid game.
The first new shot is called the Zone Shot. Performing this move allows players to “pinpoint” the exact location that they want the ball to go. Trick Shots let your character jump across the court at the expense of energy. Special Shots take up all of your energy but release a devastating attack that will need to be blocked with precision.
In addition to these new shots, there is also the block ability. If you execute the block perfectly, your racket’s endurance will stay intact. Miss the block and the racket will take damage. Failing to block three times will result in a racket break, which is an automatic forfeit.
Nintendo also announced that there would be a simple mode, for players who prefer to just participate in a normal round of tennis.
