You may have forgotten that Nintendo launched the My Nintendo service a while back. My Nintendo is a rewards program that happens to be a successor to Club Nintendo from the Wii/DS era. My Nintendo users are able to earn and redeem Platinum and Gold Points for things like free software and discounts on the eShop for Wii U and 3DS, as well as prizes for specific Nintendo apps like Miitomo. Now, the list of benefits is finally expanding with the introduction of Switch rewards.
It’s taken Nintendo quite a long time to integrate Switch into the My Nintendo ecosystem, but it’s finally happening starting in early March. This update to the service will allow My Nintendo users to redeem Gold Points for qualifying Switch eShop games and DLC. Although it would be better if these points were redeemable across the entire eShop, it’s at least nice the functionality is finally coming.
If you’re wondering how the whole system works, Nintendo has provided a simple explanation:
• Buy a qualifying digital game for Nintendo Switch, Wii U™, or Nintendo 3DS™ family systems or a physical game for the Nintendo Switch system.
• Earn Gold Points worth 5% of the amount you pay, not including any points or discounts used*.
• You can then redeem those points on your next eligible digital purchase (including games and DLC) for the Nintendo Switch system from Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com.
