Amiibo, Skylanders, LEGO Dimensions — these are all brands that fall under the ‘toys to life’ category. But as of today, they can pretty much be considered tech of the past. Now, Nintendo has set its sights on giving us what is essentially Toy Story meets LEGO, and it’s called Nintendo Labo.
Short for ‘Nintendo Laboratory’, Labo is a set of DIY toys that you assemble Ikea-style. The catch is that the Switch console and Joy-Con will fully interact with your creations and bring them to life. That’s right. You bring your toys to actual life and can even use the items you create in-game.
The company has repeatedly dismissed technology like virtual reality, and it looks like it’s because they’ve had something arguably even more creative up their sleeve. If none of this makes sense (even I’m still confused) take a look at the trailer:
As the trailer shows, Nintendo Labo will be available as of April 20th. with prices starting at $69.99. If you’re still totally confused, check out the official website for a complete rundown.
