Do you remember NBA Playgrounds? It came out last May for PC and all consoles, including the Switch. Developed by Saber Interactive, it’s essentially a modern take on the more cartoony/arcadey style of NBA titles like the classic NBA Street and NBA Jam. Playgrounds was met with a mixture of positive and tame reactions, albeit on everything but the Switch.
Saber Interactive opted to quickly port the game over to Nintendo’s new system in order to get it out at the same time as the rest of the other versions. This led to it being a less-than-stellar release. The situation was made worse when updates took basically forever, which was quite odd compared to all of the other games on Switch.
In order to make up for the huge debacle, Saber Interactive has launched the ‘Enhanced Edition’ of the game on Switch. This new, standalone version of the game includes all the free content updates and improvements that have already been available for a while on other platforms. On top of that, two DLC packs are now available: the Unlock Roster (to unlock all the characters at once) and the Hot N’ Frosty pack (which includes new court, players and ball designs). Saber is really hoping that you’ll pick this up as they’ve opted to launch this new version at a mere $10. The game will be available at this price until January 19th, which is a decent amount of time from now. After this sale, the price will go back up to $20.
If you already own NBA Playgrounds on Switch, then the Enhanced Edition will be made available to you for free via software update.
Will this push you to get the game on Switch if you haven’t already?
