TT Games has released the first DLC Level pack, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. The new level pack includes a brand new level set on the Planet Sovereign as well as a handful of new characters to try out. While the level pack captures the vibe of the hit film, it is over way too soon.
Hooked on a Feeling
The level for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 DLC mirrors the opening of the film. After a brief overview by Gwenpool the players are dropped on the platform that contains Anulax Batteries. The Guardians are there to stop the Abilisk, a giant space beast. Players starting playing Baby Groot with the ability to switch between Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket the Racoon at any time.
The disappointment with the Guardians DLC is just how small the level is. The entirety of the new level takes place on the same platform on the planet Sovereign. Most of the standard levels in the main campaign can visit multiple locations, some with branching paths. For this new level to be so limited in scope hurts the overall value presented. It feels more like a bonus level you would unlock once completing the game than it does a fleshed out additional content that is worth paying for.
As with all LEGO levels, there is a Story Mode as well as Free play. The level contains a ‘Stan Lee in Peril’ and 10 Minikits to find. Additionally, the DLC includes 6 brand new characters which include a variant Star-Lord, Ravager Rocket, Kraglin, Stakar Ogord, Tullk, and my personal favorite, Ego. These characters are unlocked and playable anywhere in the open world or in any Free Play level.
The DLC is available right now. It is included in the Season Pass which will set you back $14.99 or you can buy just the Guardians DLC for $2.99. If you are a huge Guardians fan then this is probably worth your time. Like me, if you already own the Season Pass, this is just more of what you love. It all comes down to your value proposition, if you think a few new characters and about 15 minutes worth of new content is worth $3 then you should download this right now. However, I can’t recommend this as paid, stand alone, DLC.
