Although the Nintendo Switch has pushed the 3DS out of the spotlight, the handheld system is still selling well. According to Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime, 3DS sales are on pace to sell more in 2017 than in 2016.
“In the United States we’re on track to actually sell more Nintendo 3DS systems this year than we did last year. That’s incredible for a system that has been out in the marketplace and is enjoying its seventh holiday right now.”
Though Nintendo states that 3DS support will continue well into 2018 and beyond, I don’t buy it. I think the company will slowly phase the system out, making way for Switch to be its only platform on the market.
