Digital Foundry recently took a look at Nintendo’s last big game of 2017, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Though the title runs well when docked, its performance drops off significantly when playing in handheld mode.
While attached to the dock, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 never reaches 900P. However, it doesn’t drop from 720P. The outlet states, “It’s effectively a 720P experience”.
When playing in handheld mode, they encountered many dips in resolution. 552P to 432P is what the game commonly dropped to. However, at some points, it reached even 368P.
Unfortunately, it looks like the title might either be too ambitious for the handheld version of Switch, or Monolith Soft didn’t take enough time to optimize it properly. Though the performance isn’t stellar, the game has still been receiving great reviews all around.
