The Wii U Edition of the insanely popular Minecraft launched late last year. The Nintendo Switch Edition joined the fray earlier this year after the system hit the market. For those of you who happen to own both and are upgrading from the Wii U version over to the Switch version, here’s some good news. Mojang and 4J Studios have now implemented the ability to take your data from the Wii U Edition and transfer it over to the Switch version of the game. Unsurprisingly, you’ll need to have both versions of the game and an Internet connection in order to initiate the transfer.
Mojang provided an instruction sheet on its website for the transfer process. It’s relatively simple and but there’s also pictures to make understanding the process even easier. Go ahead and check it out so you can enjoy your old worlds on Nintendo Switch!
When Minecraft on Switch receives the massive ‘Better Together Update’ which will merge the Windows 10, Xbox One, Switch and Mobile editions of the game as one version, the Wii U Edition will be left out as one of the ‘old’ versions. So, transferring your data over to the Switch is definitely recommended. When the new version is released, the old Wii U worlds on Switch will be upgraded to the infinite world size. Pretty cool stuff!
