The Nintendo Switch is a pretty unique system. Unlike past consoles, the Switch is categorized as a ‘hybrid system’. The reason for that is Nintendo has given it the functionality to be transformed almost instantaneously from a home console to a handheld and back again. As a result, it’s not strictly a home system like the Wii U or a handheld like the 3DS.
Seeing that this transforming functionality is basically the main selling point of the Switch, it’s only natural for one to be curious as to which side of the coin people are enjoying the most: playing the Switch as a home system or taking it on-the-go. The Nintendo of America Twitter account posted a survey recently asking its followers that very question: “Where’s your favorite place to play with your Nintendo Switch?” The options given were at home and various other locations, all of which involve being on-the-go. What were the results?

As you can see, the majority of survey-takers voted for the ‘Home’ option, making up 83% of the total count. This survey was taken by 46,655 people. Seeing that there are over 5 million Switch units out in the wild at this point, this is an incredibly small portion of users. It would be great if Nintendo could somehow gather data on the majority of Switch units to get a totally accurate figure on where the system is being played most. Regardless, it’s interesting how many people chose the home option in this particular survey.
Whether you use the Switch mainly as a home console or portable, just remember it’s that feature that’s the beauty of the system: you get to choose how/where you want to play. It’s still pretty amazing to think that Nintendo has managed to craft a home console that’s as sleek as a tablet. The Nintendo Switch is basically the laptop of the console industry.
