Nintendo released the Switch hybrid system back in early March of this year. Sales took off since the very beginning, leaving Nintendo shocked at the unexpectedly high demand. The strong sales performance that the Switch currently has is being acknowledged not just by Nintendo and retailers like GameStop but also by Nintendo’s competitors Microsoft and Sony.
Microsoft’s Phil Spencer recently stated that the Switch has “great momentum”, and now Sony has chimed in with its own comment on the system’s strong sales.
Sony’s Jim Ryan, the Global Head of Marketing & Sales was recently interviewed by GameReactor. The interviewer asked Ryan about how Sony feels about Nintendo and Microsoft beginning to “encroach on its space” with the new Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X. Ryan responded by saying: “I think, in many ways, this sort of increased presence in the space is a good thing. It creates conversation. It creates excitement.”
Referring specifically to Nintendo and the high sales of the Switch, Ryan had some positive remarks:
“Certainly, having a rejuvenated and energetic Nintendo back is great for the industry. I think our industry is better and stronger when Nintendo is strong. I really believe that.”
This positive comment from Ryan proves that when it comes to ‘animosity’ between the platform holders, that only exists in the gaming community, not so much the industry.
