With the financial situation at Nintendo being a bit in the dumps, Nintendo head figures have decided to do an effective cost cutting measure by taking pay cuts. Saturo Iwata took a pay cut when the 3DS was struggling in July 2011, and he will be once again taking a 50% pay cut according to Nikkei.
Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, both representative directors, will be taking a 30% pay cut. All other board directors will take a 20 percent reduction. The pay cut will be from February to June of this year. At the end of June, Nintendo will look back into the financial statistics to see whether or not to extend the pay cut or end them.
While it is an interesting way to tackle the financial situation, it is nice to see that Iwata and others are stepping up to take responsibility and hurting themselves in the worst way possible, their own wallets.
