Nintendo has sold 2 million Nintendo 3DS handhend entertainment systems in the UK so far, reports MCV.
The number includes every permutation of the device in Nintendo\’s catalog. The total sales are a combination of the original 3DS, the 3DS XL, and the recently released new budget model, 2DS.
This well under-performs what the Nintendo DS was able to achieve at this same point in time, but the good news is that the sales gap is less significant with the US and Japan. At the same time, the handheld device\’s feat tells us that dedicated handheld gaming systems and smart devices can yet coexist. That is, until Nintendo is successfully able to plant its flag in the smart device app stores.
The Nintendo 3DS has served as the pinnacle of what an impressive comeback should look like. It has gone from having mediocre sales and a long drought of quality games to being the best selling gaming device of all of 2013, thanks to a steady release of successful software every month for the entire year and an overpowering marketing effort. If anything, Nintendo 3DS serves as proof that Wii U can also make a comeback (if one isn\’t already underway). Stick around for the latest updates on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
