A retro sci-fi Adventure-Platformer. A Platformer and Shmup hybrid with Open-World RPG elements. A visually stunning and imaginative evolution of the Point & Click Adventure genre. What do they all have in common? They’re all indie and they all may be coming to Wii U.

I can’t go into the details of each developer’s specific logistics and obstacles to making a Wii U version so we’ll just have to wait and see how things work themselves out. Each of them is interested in first making a great PC game and then working out the details of whether a Wii U or 3DS version can be done. In terms of likelihood:

Rex Rocket will most likely get Wii U or 3DS support if they reach their target and then can add on a Stretch Goal.

A.N.N.E.‘s developer, Gamesbymo, would like to bring the game to 3DS ideally but they said Wii U is more likely to happen in the end because of the 720p resolution needed when you fly your ship. You can even see a Wii U GamePad with A.N.N.E. on its screen in the Kickstarter video. (Edit: It seems like people knew about this one already. Teaches me not to wait two weeks before posting this kind of thing!)

And lastly, The Realm‘s developers find the concept of making a point-and-click adventure game on Wii U to be an interesting idea and would like to discuss it further with me once their Kickstarter campaign is over.

Do Your Part, Help Bring These Games to Nintendo Platforms

More than anything, if you’d like to see these games overcome the hurdles and make it to Wii U or 3DS, let the developers know. Give them some feedback and they will know to put in the requisite effort to make it happen. Trust me, it really works.

What is Rex Rocket?


Inspired by the retro glory days of 8-bit games, Rex Rocket is a traditional 2D platformer brought into the 21st century. Paying tribute to classic NES games like Mario, Mega Man, and Metroid, old-school gamers will find Rex Rocket a breath of fresh air, stirring warm and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia. Rob and Tyler, two passionate indie game devs, have a mission to keep the world of retro games alive. Rex Rocket features one-of-a-kind handmade pixel art, over 100 handcrafted levels connected in an expansive starship filled with a wide variety of puzzles, enemies, hazards and bosses. To top it off, we have an an original, kick-ass chiptunes soundtrack by Saskrotch. Creating this universe and the memorable characters in this game has been a true labor of love.

What is it about?

Set in Earth’s distant future, Rex Rocket references the classic story of Man vs. Machine. You play as Captain Rex Rocket, a former war hero who now spends his days transporting scientists around to the far reaches of the universe in his epic Star Cruiser, the S.S. Montana. The game begins on Earth with Rex and crew on a routine mission for the Council of Science – to transplant bio-engineered Terra-Oozlings to an uninhabited planet in the far away solar system of Washington.

While the ship’s crew are in cryo-sleep, all heck breaks loose when Terra-Oozings escape their tanks and cause the ship’s main computer, LAUREN (Logic Analysis User Reactive Entity Network), to go insane. It’s up to Rex Rocket to stop the computer, rescue his crew, and save the day!

Ready to Explore?


A.N.N.E. has been taken to Planet Gomi. In a matter of minutes she will be dismantled and disposed of. Can you make it in time to save her? Set on Planet Gomi, A.N.N.E. is a Metroidvania-style platformer with a unique focus on open exploration. So many places to go! So many things to see! High level enemies are blocking your path, are you skilled enough to take them on now, or will you venture down a less risky path and come back later?

On Foot and in Flight

That’s right, explore on foot or in flight using your bulky, yet reliable ship “The Great Whale”! Use your ship’s powerful guns to dispose of large enemies that are blocking your path or move heavy objects in order to… Use your ship to move heavy physics-based objects in order to create your own platforms and access new areas! Use your imagination and carefully stack up physics-based objects or simply toss them towards enemies for maximum damage! A bit of brain power may be required here!

Open World RPG

Level up! Collect energy crystals from fallen enemies which act as both XP and game currency. Combine weapons with elemental energy in order to create different weapons. Ice rifle or Fire shotgun? It’s up to you. Purchase, equip and upgrade special abilities like a bullet shield, shockwave attack and more! Customize your ship with new parts.

A.N.N.E

In A.N.N.E. the camera zooms in when exploring on foot and out when flying aboard the Great Whale. The 16-bit art style is there to ensure that things look good up close and from afar! For this reason the designs have been kept simple and the general goal of the art direction is to avoid getting too much aliasing or noisy details. The game runs in 720p and there is currently no way to actually change that since the game is a true 2D game, pixels must stay sharp and square. Make sure your monitor can support 1280 by 720!

The Realm

The Vision


We are a group of experienced game developers looking to make a unique and visually stunning graphical adventure. We will be using a combination of inspiring 3D and beautifully crafted 2D artwork to set a new artistic benchmark for the point and click genre. We call our style ‘Western Art, Eastern Heart’. We’re re-imagining the point and click adventure, bringing it up to date so that it can be played just as easily on touch screen devices as with a mouse. We’ve taken out complicated inventory screens and obscure puzzles and replaced them with the streamlined interactivity and intuitive design now expected of modern games.

What is The Realm?

The Realm is set in a far distant future where the world has been reclaimed by nature. Our once proud cities now lie abandoned – overgrown with strange plants and twisted vines. The locations in The Realm reflect the real-life landscapes and architecture of the North East of England. Some humans remain, but they are now leading a more simple life based around small rural communities entirely divorced from modern technology and science. The age of magic and mysticism has returned and there are rumours of stirrings in the forests.

The Realm follows the story of Sarina, a headstrong young girl who leaves the safety of her village to embark on a desperate quest to discover a cure for her sick mother. On her journey she befriends a legendary giant stone golem named Toru, a gentle but powerful creature, and the unlikely couple begin a treacherous adventure together. Sarina and Toru travel across the wild and beautiful land to a forgotten city, where legend speaks of a flower growing with amazing healing properties. Their presence in the city awakens a long forgotten shadowy force that controls the Lampheads – mysterious plant-like creatures with a powerful and deadly gaze.

How Do I Play The Realm?

In The Realm, the player controls both our heroes – Sarina and Toru. To complete the adventure, the player must learn to utilize the unique abilities of both characters to solve the many puzzles and to overcome the many threats that dwell in The Realm. Sarina is adventurous, feisty and smart. However, she is vulnerable to the many natural hazards and creatures found in the world. She is fast and nimble, but her size means that she is unable to perform many of the tasks required to progress. Luckily, Toru is able to lend his power in assistance.

Toru is a giant stone golem who has been dormant in the forest for a long time. He’s naive, pure and he can’t remember his past. He fascinated and easily distracted by the wonders around him. Slow moving but powerful, he is impervious to many hazards, and throughout the game he learns new skills and abilities from Sarina. Only by leading Sarina and Toru through a number of beautiful but dangerous locations and solving a series of environment-based puzzles, will you be able to help our heroes fulfil Sarina’s quest and help Toru discover his purpose. Sarina and Toru can be moved around each location and interact with objects found within. When interacting with an object, each character is presented with a unique set of available actions, specific to the given context. There are characters that help, and others that hinder, and there are deadly traps and evil lurking in the shadows. You must use all your cunning to survive!
