This year’s E3 saw a big showing from Nintendo who are set to continue the momentum from the recently released Mario Kart 8. A lot of people are now playing close attention to the games coming out for both the Wii U and 3DS over the next year, all of which are detailed below.

Nintendo shared new details about Wii U heavy-hitters Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X & Bayonetta 2 as well as revealed the worlds first look at the new entry in The Legend of Zelda series. They also surprised the world by revealing several new & exclusive titles including Splatoon, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Kirby & The Rainbow Curse, Yoshi’s Woolly World & Devil’s Third. For the 3DS Nintendo debuted Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and of course the soon to release Super Smash Bros for 3DS. They also gave us the world’s first look at Fossil Fighters: Frontier and Intelligent Systems new IP Codename: S.T.E.A.M.

The show also gave us a first look at the Nintendo Figurine Platform, now known to be called Amiibo. Not many announcements came from third-party developers but thankfully a tidal wave of support from indie developers has been championed by Nintendo.

Amiibo (Wii U, Wii U eShop, 3DS & 3DS eShop)

  • Game Description: Figures of Nintendo characters can interact with multiple future Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games in unique new ways, providing fresh game-play experiences and a great value for consumers with compatibility across multiple games. Fans can buy and collect amiibo, to bring them closer to the games and characters they love. By the end of the year, Nintendo’s foray into the toys-to-life category will inject energy into the genre. Nintendo will launch amiibo with around 10 figures. More will be launched during the winter season and throughout 2015. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to support amiibo. Other games that will support amiibo include Mario Kart 8Captain Toad: Treasure TrackerMario Party 10 andYoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come. A new NFC reader/writer being designed for Nintendo 3DS is scheduled to launch in 2015.

  • Game Description: Splatoon is a four-on-four multiplayer action game that drops players into a battle arena that two teams strive to claim as their own.
