The problem wont come from downloading the update, but turning it off once it is being implemented. I think you should be fine, best of luck.
It should be common sense not to turn off your console while it updating its base operating system. The same can be said for any other electronic device. A slight discrepancy about the information provided though is the size of the update. The download is 1GB, but it then de-compresses the information into a 5GB update.
