No, its not April 1st….
Back in 2002 Nintendo upset fans world-wide by allowing the sale of RARE to Microsoft, but now a decade later comes a rumour that if proven true could be very exciting indeed!
Zelda Informer are reporting that they have received word that
- Nintendo in negotiations with Microsoft to buy RARE
- The purpose of buying is centred around acquiring rights to RARE’s IPs
- Retro Studios is deep in development of a new Banjo-Kazooie title
- Talks with Microsoft have been going on for some time
Zelda Informer themselves are debating the validity of this rumour as are we. Initially it would seem very un-Nintendo and very un-Microsoft to do such a move, but if you consider that RARE are now a shell of their former selves and haven’t produced a hit since the ill-fated acquisition, Nintendo would likely pay less than what Microsoft did back in 2002. Now that sounds like something Nintendo would do!
