The 5 Best Wii U Soundtracks at E3
There were a whole slew of trailers shown at E3 and each one was accompanied with background music. There were also many moments throughout the press conferences that had soundtracks blazing while highlight reels sizzled on the screen. We decided to browse through the music at the show and list the five best music tracks for your listening enjoyment. We also picked two disappointing soundtracks that we hope have a bit more pizzazz added to them before their respective games are released.
Let’s count down the best soundtracks.
1. The Wii U Ubisoft Sizzle Reel
I felt that the best music of the entire conference came from Ubisoft’s awesome sizzle reel for the Wii U. It did a great job of conveying the awesome job Ubisoft is doing in their support for the Wii U. In fact, most critics are in agreement that Ubisoft stole the show. However, I found a youtube video that took the Ubisoft music and applied it to a mashup trailer of Pikmin 3 and New Super Mario Bros U. Now, that is a great combo!
2. The ZombiU Trailer
Ubisoft again? They were on a roll this E3. While this surely isn’t a new song, matching “God Save the Queen” to a trailer about zombies was a great idea that added a comical tone to the deadly zombie outbreak. Whoever does the marketing for Ubisoft should continue doing the excellent job they’re already doing.
3. New Super Mario Bros U Main Theme
Mario themes are always great. The recent Super Mario 3D Land had a really catchy main theme that retained the familiar Mario vibe while introducing a new track. Once again, the Mario series continues producing quality main themes with New Super Mario Bros U. The chipset used will be awfully familiar to Nintendo fans but the tune is an all new one.
4. Assassin’s Creed 3 Trailer
Three Ubisoft games in a list of five? What, am I biased or something? No, I’ve never had any particular bias towards Ubisoft; they just happened to have done a great job on E3 this year, obviously putting in an effort that other companies might have been missing. Proving for a second E3 in a row that they have great taste in music, Ubisoft unleashed “Damned” by Superhuman on the world of Assassin’s Creed 3. Last year, they used “Iron” by Woodkid in their Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer.
5. Nintendoland Music – Animal Crossing Sweet Day
A real catchy marching tune from Nintendoland plays to the beat while players run around collecting sweets in the Animal Crossing Sweet Day mini-game. While many gamers were disappointed in the fact that Nintendo decided to end the press conference with the Nintendoland announcement, there’s no question that Nintendo will make sure the production values in the game are superb. And of course, that includes the music. Simple but catchy, Sweet Day’s music is the perfect soundtrack for this particular mini-game.
2 Disappointing Soundtracks
Both of these soundtracks sounded okay, but they could use a bit more to add a bit of extra oomph. Truthfully, they both seem like continuations of the soundtracks in the previous games in both series without adding anything new. They aren’t terrible, just slightly boring.
