“Beginning in March and continuing through the rest of the calendar year and into 2014, Nintendo will release a cavalcade of strong, fan-favorite software titles for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. New entries in the Mario Kart, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, LEGO City, Wii Fit and Pikmin franchises will help Nintendo regain momentum for Wii U. Additionally, highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS games such as Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf have the potential to be hardware drivers and bring new audiences to the platform.”

It’s good to see Nintendo not resting on their laurels and giving us what we need in terms of powerhouse franchises. If you read the above statement again, look at the Zelda comment, a HD port of Wind Waker surely can’t be considered a new entry in the series, can it? Then again, Wind Waker HD isn’t just an HD upgrade. It’s a full-on remake. So, that’s probably Nintendo’s intention. But Aonuma did confirm that they are working on a completely new Zelda Wii U game and Wind Waker HD is just there to keep us patient. So, it may not be so far off to assume that the next all-new Zelda will in fact come in 2014.
